SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Missouri State women's soccer team tallied a goal in each half to down visiting Arkansas State, 2-0, in exhibition play at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium on Friday evening.
The Bears got on the board in the 15th minute of play. Freshman Brooke Prondzinski won the ball from a defender about 30 yards from goal. She dribbled through the Red Wolves defense and deked the goalkeeper to net her second goal in as many exhibition matches.
MSU doubled its lead in the 80th minute. Junior Alaina Derse beat the defender to the end line and send a cross into the box. Freshman Allie Thomas attempted a header which was saves by the ASU keeper, but right to the foot of senior Kristina Tomaras for the insurance goal.
Starting goalkeeper Jessica Perry made one save in 39 minutes of action for the win. Redshirt sophomore Evan Stamp made two saves in 30 minutes of play and redshirt freshman Sarah Sabo saved one shot in the final 21 minutes of game action.
Prondzinski led the Bears with three shots. Tomaras added two shots and four other Bears had a shot each in the match.
Missouri State heads across town for the final preseason tune-up at Drury on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. The Bears begin the regular season on Aug. 21 at Idaho State with a 5:00 p.m. CT kickoff. MSU returns the Allison South Stadium for the regular season home opener on Friday, August 28 versus UMKC.
