The Missouri State Lady Bears (12-13, 9-5 MVC) have won four consecutive games and host a pair of top-tier Missouri Valley Conference teams this weekend. MSU takes on UNI (14-11, 10-4) at 7 p.m. Friday, and closes the home schedule with Drake (18-7, 13-1) at 2 p.m. Sunday. Missouri State is offering a special discount to faculty and staff this weekend, with $3 tickets available to MSU employees.
Several promotions are in place for Friday's game. It's Kids Night at The Q, with kids 12 and under gaining free admission with an adult ticket purchase at a discounted price of $4. There will be activities for kids at the game, and an autograph session with the Lady Bears postgame that features collectible team trading cards, while supplies last.
Friday is also the annual Play4Kay breast cancer awareness game. Country music artist Candy Coburn will perform at halftime, and the pink jerseys worn by the players, as well as replicas for the coaches, will be auctioned off. The American Cancer Society will have a table in the concourse.
On Sunday, MSU will honor its lone senior, NiJay Gaines, in a pregame ceremony before her final home game.
Series Histories
Missouri State owns a 46-24 lead in the series with UNI, though the Panthers are 9-1 in the last 10 meetings. MSU holds a 28-6 lead in Springfield.
MSU holds a 39-37 series lead over Drake, and is 26-14 against the Bulldogs in Springfield. Missouri State has averaged 80.2 points in the last 13 games against Drake.
Scouting UNI
UNI is 14-11 overall and 10-4 in MVC games. Madison Weekly is UNI's leading scorer at 14.4 points per game, including 41.8 accuracy from 3-point land. Nearly 44 percent (617/1,404) of UNI's field goal attempts this season have been 3-pointers. As a team, the Panthers average 64.3 points and allow 60.5 while shooting 38.9 percent overall, 34.5 percent on 3-pointers and 72.6 percent from the foul line.
Scouting Drake
Drake is 18-7 overall and tied atop the MVC standings with a 13-1 league mark. Despite losing 2014 MVC Player of the Year Kyndal Clark to injury, the Bulldogs are the league's leading offense at 77.5 points per game overall, with sophomore Lizzy Wendell holding the individual lead at 23.2 points per contest. Freshmen Becca Jonas (12.0 points, 8.8 rebounds) and Maddy Dean (13.6 points, 7.2 rebounds), and Caitlin Ingle (11.1) also score in double figures. Ingle leads the league with 7.0 assists per game. As a team, DU allows 68.8 points and shoots 45.2 percent overall, 33.3 percent on 3-pointers and 70.7 percent from the foul line.
First Meetings This Season
Missouri State trailed UNI by 19 points in the first half of their Feb. 1 meeting in Cedar Falls, and pulled within one point but never took the lead in a 64-56 loss. Kenzie Willilams led MSU with 14 points, while UNI's Madison Weekly hit five of her six 3-pointers in the second half.
Missouri State lost an overtime thriller at Drake on Jan. 30, falling 94-89. Kenzie Williams scored 27 points, including MSU's final seven in regulation, while NiJay Gaines scored a career-high 19 in her home town. Drake's Lizzy Wendell scored 43 points, and the Lady Bears shot 1-for-9 from the floor in overtime.
