Oct. 29, 2015

Box Score

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- A first half penalty kick awarded to the home-standing Evansville Purple Aces (5-10-2, 3-2-1) was enough to edge the Missouri State women's soccer team (9-6-1, 3-3-0) in the regular season finale, 1-0. The loss drops the Bears to the three-seed in next week's MVC Tournament and MSU will host UNI in the quarterfinals on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium.

In the 22nd minute, MSU was called for a penalty in the UE 18-yard box resulting in the Purple Aces being awarded a penalty kick. Evansville senior Allie Arguello stepped to the spot and converted the PK to put the Bears behind 1-0.

After firing five shots in the first half with none on net, the Bears turned the offensive pressure up in the second 45 minutes. All four MSU shots on goal came in the second half.

The Bears appeared to have tallied the game-tying goal in the 88th minute. However, MSU was assessed a penalty and the goal was disallowed.

In the closing seconds, senior Erin Stewart forced the UE keeper to make one final save before the final horn blew.

Senior Alix Opfer and sophomores Mary Disidore and Brooke Zimmerman contributed two shots each as MSU put forth nine shots to Evansville's 14 in the match.

The Bears will host a UNI squad that MSU defeated to open MVC play on September 26, 2-1. The winner will advance to the semifinals of the MVC Tournament in Evansville, Ind., to face the two-seeded Purple Aces.
