SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The final home stand of the season begins Saturday for the Missouri State women's soccer team (8-4-1, 2-1-0) as the Bears host Illinois State (5-7-2, 2-1-0) in a matchup of teams tied for second in the MVC standings. The match at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. will be the MSU Pink Game.
"This is a critical match and we look forward to playing at home," said head coach Rob Brewer. "I feel like as a group we've continued to get better and make progress. We are excited to get out and play and have some home support. We hope that the players that get opportunities, step up and make big plays for us."
Senior Alix Opfer scored her league-best eighth goal of the season last weekend in the Bears' win at Indiana State. She also added an assist on the game-winning goal later in the match to take sole possession of the league points lead (19). The Springfield native ranks eighth on the single season points list with three regular season games remaining.
Fellow senior Jessica Perry racked up her eighth win of the year with the victory over the Sycamores, matching her MSU career total for wins entering this season. Despite holding just two clean sheets, Perry has the Bears positioned in the top half of the league standings as the stretch run begins.
Freshman Brooke Prondzinski added to her league-best total by racking up her eighth assist of the season last week. Her total is now double the closest MVC player on the ledger and ranks 12th nationally. She also is tied atop the league with 46 shots taken.
The Bears' final home match will be on Oct. 24 at 2:00 p.m. versus league frontrunner Drake and is Senior Day for MSU. Missouri State will close out the regular season at Evansville on Oct. 29.
