St. LOUIS -- Missouri State sophomore middle blocker Simone House was named the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week Monday (Sept. 8) for her performances in the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational.
House hit a blistering .458 last week and averaged 1.31 blocks per set for the Bears (4-3), committing just four attack errors while scoring 26 kills in 48 attempts for a .542 kill percentage. She also participated in 17 of MSU's 26 blocks as a team, and has now held at least a share of the team blocking lead in 15 of 24 career matches.
The Oshkosh, Wis., native put together an incredible Saturday with nine kills against Incarnate Word and eight against Milwaukee, needing just 22 swings for her 17 kills and hitting .727 on the day with four blocks in each match. She had seven kills and five blocks in Thursday's win over Oral Roberts, and had four more blocks Friday against Western Kentucky.
House and the Bears take on Kansas State today at 5 p.m. before heading to Madison, Wis., to face Ball State, fourth-ranked Wisconsin, and Miami (Fla.), on Sept. 12 and 13.
