ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Six Missouri State women's soccer players received awards at the annual MVC banquet held in Normal, Ill., on Thursday night. Seniors Molly Huber and Kelsey Fouch were named to the All-MVC first team, junior Molly Brewer was an All-MVC second team selection with Mary Disidore and Alix Opfer named to the honorable mention squad. Disidore and Brooke Zimmerman earning MVC All-Freshman team honors.
Fouch picks up her second-consecutive first team selection and third career All-MVC honor. The vocal defensive leader has played the most minutes on the team this season (1,643) and is one of four players to start every match. This season, she is second on the team with five assists and scored her first career goal, the game-winner, at UNI in Sunday's MVC Tournament quarterfinal. Fouch was twice named MVC Defensive Player of the Year this season (Sept. 9 and Oct. 7) and was named to the Capital One Academic All-District VI first team.
Huber earns her first all-conference accolade after breaking the single season school record with 13 goals on the year. She was named MVC Offensive Player of the Week on October 7 after recording just the fourth hat trick in school history against Indiana State (Oct. 3). Huber is tied for the league lead in goals scored and ranks in the top-25 nationally in total goals (t-24th) and goals per game (16th at 0.813).
Brewer pockets her second-straight second team honor. She leads the Bears with seven assists and is second on the team with six goals. She was named MVC Offensive Player of the Week (Sept. 3) and MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week (Sept. 4) after scoring a goal in back-to-back matches in Tulsa. Brewer also earned Capital One Academic All-District VI first team honors this year.
Disidore notches her first league honors. She tied for third on the team with four assists, all during MVC play and tied for the league lead in the category. Three of her assists came on Huber goals including two in the match against Indiana State (Oct. 3). The feisty midfielder is third on the team with 20 shots taken this year.
Opfer earns her first league honor since being named to the MVC All-Freshman team in 2012. The versatile junior has played significant minute both in the midfield and on the back line. She scored her first career goal this season, a game-tying tally late in an eventual draw against Oral Roberts (Aug. 31).
Zimmerman also receives her first league recognition. She is third on the team with three goals and eight points. She tallied the first-ever regular season goal at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium, the game winner, against Utah State (Aug. 24) and netted a second game-winner in the next home match against Arkansas State (Sept. 7). Her two assists were both on Huber goals, including the overtime game-winner against Loyola (Oct. 25).
Missouri State (7-9-2) will face host and top-seeded Illinois State (12-5-0) in the semifinals of the MVC Women's Soccer Championship on Friday, November 7, at 6:06 p.m. in Normal, Ill. The match can be seen on ESPN3. The winner will advance to Sunday's finals with an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament at stake.
