ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Missouri State women's swimmer Dora Kiss has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week for her performance at the Louisville Invitational over the weekend, announced by the league on Tuesday, Nov. 25.
Kiss helped lead the Bears at the Louisville Invitational to a fourth-place finish over the weekend. Each of the four races she competed in set top times for her or the MSU team for the 2014-15 season during the Invite, hosted by the No. 17 Louisville Cardinals from Nov. 21-23. She earned top-five finishes in each event, while also earning an individual-best time in the MVC in one of her events.
Kiss turned in one of the top performances for the Bears on Friday. Kiss broke the previous-school record she held in the 500 free in the prelims by two seconds, then placed third and finished faster by one-tenth of a second in the finals with a time of 4:49.13. The new school-record time by Kiss is the second fastest in The Valley this season.
On the second day of action, Kiss continued to play a major role for the Bears. The Hungary native finished with a personal-best time in the 200 free prelims, then topped it by finishing the finals in 1:50.52 to place a team-high fifth among individuals on the day -- an MSU-best and MVC third-best time in the event in 2014-15. She also on Saturday was part of an 800 free relay team that finished in an MSU season-best and MVC-best 7:36.73.
On Sunday, Kiss swam the fastest time in The Valley this season in the 200 fly (2:00.20) and placed fourth in the finals.
Kiss is the sixth Bear to earn weekly conference honors during the 2014-15 season. Previous winners include Miguel Davila, Uvis Kalnins, Paul Le, Lauren Pavel, and Garrett Nevels.
