PEORIA, Ill. - The Missouri State Bears men's soccer team (9-5-4) lost in double overtime of the Missouri Valley Conference Championship Match to Southern Illinois Edwardsville pm Sunday afternoon. SIUE's Jabari Danzy scored in the 108th minute of play to break the scoreless tie and gives the Cougars the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA tournament.

The Bears and Cougars each had quality looks in both regulation and the extra periods, but it took some big saves from both team's keeper to keep the game level for so long. The two sides played to a scoreless first half. The Cougars led the way with seven shots, compared to three by the Bears, but all three MSU attempts were on target forcing Kent Kobernus to make three saves. None of the SIUE shots were on goal.

It wasn't until the 61st minute of play that Missouri State goalkeeper Addison Watson was forced to make his first save of the match. In the 73rd minute, Watson made a huge save to keep the match scoreless. As the MVC Offensive Player of the Year, Christian Volesky, broke free, Watson cut off his angle, made his body big, and made the save. The Missouri State defense allowed a total of only four shots on target throughout the match.

Jack Roberts nearly ended it in the 81st minute when he curved in a shot from inside the box using the outside of his foot. The bend on the ball traveled around the defenders and hugged the outside of the post but sailed just wide. Mikey Lightbourne had a scoring opportunity in the 106th minute, but Kobernus came up with the big save.

Three Bears made the conference's all-tournament team. Andrew Turner, James Fawke, and Parker Maher were recognized for their exceptional play in the tournament. SIUE junior midfielder Danzy was named the 2014 Missouri Valley Conference Men's Soccer Tournament MVP, after leading the Cougars to their first-ever NCAA Tournament berth, registering two game-winning goals for SIUE in tournament play. The 13-member All-Tournament team is listed below.
