St. LOUIS -- Missouri State's
Lily Johnson was honored Monday afternoon as the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week in volleyball for the second time this season.
An outside hitter from Wildwood, Mo., Johnson led all players with 18 kills in Missouri State's Friday match at Wichita State, setting the MSU freshman record for kills in a season during the match. She added a career-high four blocks and a service ace for 21 total points against the Shockers, and had 10 digs for her eighth double-double of the year.
Johnson broke the 20-year-old mark of 377 kills set by Vanessa Wouters in 1994, and the rookie now has an MVC-leading 394 kills on the season while ranking second in the league with a 4.02 per set average. Johnson also leads the Valley with 0.34 aces per set and ranks second with an average of 4.55 points.
Johnson and the Bears (17-9, 10-4 MVC) close out the home portion of the schedule this weekend with matches against Southern Illinois at 7 p.m. Friday and Evansville at 7 p.m. Saturday. MSU will honor its four seniors prior to the UE match, and tickets that night are $4 for active or retired military personnel and first responders as part of Missouri State's Tribute to America's Heroes promotion.
