Oct. 7, 2014 ST. LOUIS, Mo. - A pair of Missouri State women's soccer seniors picked up league honors, the Missouri Valley Conference office announced on Tuesday (Oct. 7). Kelsey Fouch earned MVC Defensive Player of the Week and Molly Huber notched MVC Offensive Player of the Week accolades.
Huber placed her name in the MSU record books by recording just the fourth hat trick in program history on Friday night. Her three goals against league-for Indiana State accounted for all of the scoring in the match. Her three goals on Friday give her 10 on the season, the most among Valley players. She scored her three goals on five shots, with all three shots on goal finding the back of the net. Huber's 10 goals are just two shy of tying the single season school record and are the most by a Bears since Debbie Stark scored 11 in 1999. Huber was the only MVC player to score a trifecta of goals last week. Huber was one of just six women's soccer players nationally to score a hat trick last week and is now 10th in the country in goals scored this season.
Fouch continued her impressive leadership on the Bears' back line as she played all 180 minutes of the week. On Friday, she helped the MSU defense record its first MVC shutout of the season in a 3-0 blanking of Indiana State. The speedy right back shut down the Sycamore offense to the tune of zero shots on goal in the victory. Then on Sunday, the senior kept the #16 Kansas offense in check as the Bears dropped a narrow 2-1 decision. The award is the second MVC Defensive Player of the Week nod the season for the reigning MVC Defensive Player of the Year.
Missouri State returns to action on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. for a conference match against Evansville at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium.
