SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Missouri State men's soccer team (7-4-3, 3-0-1) and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (4-7-3, 4-0-0) both look to solidify themselves at the top of the Missouri Valley Conference men's soccer standings. The two schools, each without a loss in conference play, will face one another Saturday night in Edwardsville, Ill., in the second to last week of the regular season.
Missouri State is entering the match with the distinction of not conceding an MVC goal in four conference matches this season. The Bears blanked Bradley last week, and earned a draw with Loyola on the road a week prior. Outside of the tie with the Ramblers, the Bears have three conference wins and sit in second in the current standings with 10 points.
SIUE enters the weekend's match with a perfect conference record at 4-0-0, but are winless throughout the nonconference schedule. The Cougars are outscoring Valley teams 11-1 this season, an impressive 2.75 goals per game. SIUE did earn a quality draw on Tuesday with a midweek tie at No. 22 Louisville.
The Cougars are led by goal-scoring threat, Christian Volesky. The senior leads the Missouri Valley Conference in shots (45), goals (seven), and points (17). It will be quite the test for the MSU defense, the conference leaders in shutouts (nine) and overall goals against average (0.61).
The match is scheduled to kickoff from SIUE's Korte Stadium at 7 p.m. on Nov. 1. The Cougars lead the MVC in attendance at 1,357 people per game this season. The match will be streamed live and can be watched for free at the link above.
