SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Despite having to come back from an early deficit for the second time in the Baymont Inn Classic, the Missouri State men's soccer team (4-1-0) defeated Western Illinois (1-4-0) and were named tournament co-champions with Dayton.

Following Friday night's double-overtime thriller, the tournament hosts gave fans another exciting finish on Sunday. Two minutes into overtime, the Bears earned a corner kick. James Routledge, the redshirt freshman from Auckland, New Zealand, set up to take the kick from the far right end of the field in front of the home crowd. Routledge swung in the ball and made contact directly with senior defender Callen Roselieb's head. Roselieb had elevated in the penalty box and whipped his head towards the net as the ball made contact. The resulting goal ended the game and gave the Bears a 2-0 mark in the tournament. Dayton, who also posted a 2-0 record over the weekend, were named co-champions with Missouri State.

"Obviously, we don't want to go down in games, but the fact that we did and the way that we responded shows what this team is made of," said Routledge after his first career two-assist game as a Bear. "The easiest part is hitting the ball, the hard part is working it up from the back and setting the play up and I think as the game progressed we did that really well today."

The game winning goal came from defender Callen Roselieb, who has a pivotal role in moving the ball up from the defense.

"There is no weakest link on this team. Everyone can contribute, and everybody can step up," Roselieb said about the depth of the Bears. "We have guys doing extra, when the minutes are getting heavy and it is hot out, we have plenty of guys that can step up, and that's a great thing for us to have.

In the 29th minute, the Leathernecks earned an indirect free kick from just outside of the six yard box. Mario Alvarez touched the ball after the whistle had blown to start play, and Husref Jupic blasted the close range shot into the back of the net.

In the second half, Missouri State converted a chance to equalize the score. Routledge stood over the free kick right outside of the penalty box and signaled his teammates into motion. As the ball was kicked in, James Thomas broke free and was able to put his head on the ball, tying the game at 1-1 in the 65th minute.

"We came into this tournament with four quality soccer teams, and I think it showed out there, there were four good games this weekend," Coach Leamy said about the Baymont Inn Classic. "Our depth was great, we have a lot of guys that can contribute on this team and that's a reason why we are winning."

In addition to Missouri State and Dayton being named co-champions, the all-tournament team has been selected. Below are the eleven players who earned a spot on that roster.

Missouri State finishes the home stand next Saturday with a home game against Xavier at 1:30 at Plaster Field, prior to the football game that evening.
