SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Missouri State men's soccer team (9-3-2, 4-0 MVC) travels to Bradley (8-5-2, 2-1-1) this Saturday in a conference matchup that has major implications on the Missouri Valley standings.
The Bears, who have shutout all Missouri Valley opponents thus far this season, have an opportunity to clinch an outright regular season MVC title for the fifth time in program history. The 1997, 1999, 2009, and 2011 teams were all regular season champions.
The top of the standings currently have Missouri State leading with 12 points (4-0), followed by Drake who has 10 points (3-1-1) over five games, and Bradley who has 7 points (2-1-1). Victories earn three points, one point is awarded for a draw, and teams receive zero points for a loss.
With a victory, Missouri State would have earned 15 points on the season, which cannot be matched by any other Valley school. With a tie this Saturday at Bradley, the Bears would be at 13 points, which would clinch at least a tie for the conference title.
The Bears also have an opportunity to earn up to three points at the final home game of the season on Nov. 9th. Depending on this weekend's results, the fifth annual Living OUR Legacy Game against SIU Edwardsville could determine the final conference seeding heading into the conference tournament.
The conference tournament is held this year in Peoria on Nov. 13-17. The top two finishers in the conferences receive first round byes.
Saturday's game looks to be another defensive battle as the Bears and Braves rank first and second in conference goals allowed, goals against average, and shutouts.
Bradley's Wojciech Wojcik and Missouri State's Jack Roberts are each tied for the conference lead in points per game. Through four MVC contests, Wojcik has two goals and two assists, and Roberts has scored three goals.
The game is scheduled to kickoff at 6 p.m. Saturday night. Bradley will be streaming the game, and can be purchased through the link above for $4.95. Live stats and tweet updates can also be used to track the game.
