Head Coach Paul Lusk Paul Lusk (Southern Illinois, 1995) is 18-21 (.462) in his second season at MSU and 20-44 (.313) in his third season overall as a head coach. He is 9-10 in non-conference play (6-5 at JQH Arena), 10-9 in home games, 8-6 on the road, and 0-5 at neutral sites. He is 1-0 against Tulsa (0-0 away, 1-0 at home). The Series Missouri State leads the all-time series, 20-17, including wins in two of the last three meetings. The Bears are 6-11 all-time in Tulsa and have not won a game there since a 66-61 victory on Jan. 31, 1996 when the clubs were Missouri Valley Conference foes. MSU has lost four straight road games in the series since then. Last year in Springfield, Anthony Downing's 3-pointer with four seconds left in regulation forced overtime and set the stage for a a 69-64 MSU win at JQH Arena (att. 7,163). Downing had another trey in overtime along with the decisive driving layup to seal the win. He finished with 9 points off the bench, while Caleb Patterson (19), Kyle Weems (17 points, 12 boards) and Jarmar Gulley (16) led the way for the Bears. Tulsa was led by Jordan Clarkson (23), Scottie Haralson (15) and Kodi Maduka (11 points, 13 rebounds). The win extended MSU's non-conference home winning streak to 22 games at the time The Opponent First-year head coach Danny Manning (Kansas, 1991) returns one starter and four lettermen from a 17-14 club that was 10-6 in CUSA and tied for third in the league. Scottie Haralson(6-4, Sr., G, Jackson, Miss.) is the lone returning starter for the Golden Hurricane. He averages 10.1 points and 3.0 rebounds per game, but leads the club with 18 3-pointers. Freshman James Woodward (G, Edmond, Okla.) leads the team with 16.9 points and 5.9 rebounds per game with 11 3-pointers, 16 assists and an impressive 53.2-percent shooting percentage. Sophomore Rashad Smith (6-7, F, Plano, Texas) averages 14.5 points and 4.8 rebounds and is shooting .621 from the field. Tulsa assistant Steve Woodberry departed the MSU program this spring after six seasons in Springfield. The former Jayhawk joined Manning's staff this spring along with fellow KU alum Brett Ballard. Manning holds seven MSU opponent NCAA Tournament records, including most points (42), field goals (16) and minutes (40) against the Bears in the 1987 second round in Atlanta . |
