TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Missouri State volleyball team cruised to its fourth consecutive victory Saturday with a 25-13, 25-13, 25-14 win at Indiana State. The Bears improved to 15-12 overall and 9-6 in the Missouri Valley Conference, while the Sycamores fell to 3-21 and 1-13 in the league after hitting only .000 for the match, the lowest total for an MSU opponent this season.
Missouri State never trailed in the match and got off to a quick start in the first set with four Olivia Brand kills helping the Bears to an 8-1 lead. MSU recorded only 19 attacks in the entire set, converting 12 into kills with two errors for a .526 hitting percentage. Shelby Strang, Kinsey McCarter, Carly Thomas and Maddy Hogan all recorded service aces in the period as MSU limited the Sycamores to eight kills and .045 hitting.
Missouri State recorded four blocks in the second set to help hold ISU to eight kills against nine errors. The Bears hit .333 and added two more aces to duplicate their 25-13 win from the first set.
Christine McCartney had seven kills in the third set to lead Missouri State to another convincing victory. The junior hit .400 in the frame and Missouri State added four more blocks to bring its match total to nine.
The Bears had 32 kills and a season-low eight attack errors to hit .333, while Indiana State finished with 25 in each category. Missouri State added a season-high seven service aces and out-dug ISU 30-26.
McCartney hit .391 with 11 kills as the only player on either squad to reach double figures, and Ashley Mason scooped a match-high 13 digs. Brand finished with nine kills, while Thomas, Hogan and Strang served two aces apiece.
The Bears return to action Friday (Nov. 9) with a 7 p.m. match at Wichita State in their final road contest of the season. After that, Missouri State hosts Drake and Creighton on Nov. 16 and 17 and the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Nov. 22-24 at Hammons Student Center.
