The Missouri State women's soccer team (4-3-1) will look to continue the momentum of the three-match shutout streak from the past week when they host UMKC (1-3-3) at Plaster Field on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. The Bears have won both matches in the series history against the Kangaroos by one-goal margins winning 2-1 at UMKC in 2010 in overtime and 1-0 in 2009 at Plaster Field.
Missouri State racked up the awards this week with senior goalkeeper Jessica Teahan being named the MVC Defensive Player of the Week and Prairie Farms/MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week. She registered two shutouts and went 2-0-1 last week while making a career-high 12 saves, including a penalty kick save in double overtime, against Tulsa last Friday.
Sophomore Shelby Stewart was named MVC Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday following her two goal week. She scored an insurance goal at Arkansas on Sept. 6 to give the Bears their first road victory over the Razorbacks. She followed that up with the game-winning tally against Oral Roberts on Sunday. Stewart assisted on Michelle Sommer's overtime game-winner last season at UMKC.
Following Friday's match, MSU will open conference play at Indiana State on Sept. 23 (6:00 p.m.). The Bears will then return to Plaster Field for another three-match home stand facing Saint Louis (Sept. 25; 2:00 p.m.), Illinois State (Sept. 30; 7:00 p.m.) and Drake (Oct. 7; 7:00 p.m.).
