SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri State assistant coach Camryn Whitaker has resigned from her position on the Lady Bear staff to accept a coaching post with another Division I program. A search will commence immediately to replace the third-year aide, whose last official day of employment at the University will be Friday (April 29).
Whitaker, who also served as recruiting coordinator for Missouri State, played a key role in the Lady Bears’ turnaround from a 10-20 season her first year on the job to back-to-back 20-win campaigns and Postseason Women’s National Invitation Tournament appearances in her final two years with the program. In all, MSU went 46-22 over the past two seasons, highlighted by a runner-up finish at this year’s State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament and four postseason victories in their two trips to the WNIT.
In her three years on head coach Nyla Milleson’s staff, Whitaker helped mentor a trio of Lady Bear perimeter players who would garner All-Missouri Valley Conference honors, including 2010 Jackie Stiles MVC Player of the Year Casey Garrison. Additionally, Whitaker’s recruiting efforts helped secure the talents of a number of key contributors to the Lady Bears’ recent success, including 2010 MVC Freshman of the Year Christiana Shorter.
Whitaker came to Missouri State in May 2008 after serving as an assistant coach at Austin Peay State University for two seasons under head coach Carrie Daniels.
