The Missouri State swimming and diving squads began the final weekend of the season with a win over conference foe University of Evansville.
The Bears dominated the Aces, dropping only three swimming events on the day. The final score of the men’s meet was 92-21 and the women’s meet was 72-41. Both teams are now 7-3 in dual meets this season.
In the meet, the distance group was impressive, with the women’s trio of junior Dimitra Drakopoulou, senior Katharina Voelkel and senior Rene Smith going 1-2-3 in the 1000-yard freestyle. On the men’s side, freshman Jared Roberts touched the wall at 9:52.09 to win the event.
Later in the meet, the men’s 200-yard individual medley team swept the podium with the group of sophomore Daan Jansen, freshman Colin Hill and sophomore Waldo Broodryk finishing 1-2-3 in the event. For the women, junior Brianna Willoughby defended her crown as top IMer in the Valley with her impressive 2:10.56, earning a first-place nod.
On the diving boards, freshman Cameron Wilson won his first collegiate event on the three-meter boards. His score of 265.73 was the tops of the three man field.
Next up for the Bears will be Eastern Illinois. This meet will be the final dual of the season for the Bears. Missouri State will begin training for the MVC and MAC conference championships, both to be held in Carbondale, Ill. at Southern Illinois University. The women’s meet is scheduled for Feb. 17-19 and the men’s meet on Mar. 3-5
