Drakopoulou Named Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week

ST LOUIS - Junior Dimitra Drakopoulou was named Missouri Valley Conference swimmer of the week for her efforts at the Tunica Invitational. She is the second Bear to win the Valley award this season.

Drakopoulou led the Bears to victory at the 2011 Tunica Invitational. She placed second or better in every event she swam in. In the meet, Drakopoulou helped the Bears win both the 800-yard and the 400-yard freestyle relays. Missouri State won every relay event at the meet. So far this season, Drakopoulou has the top times in the 1000-yard freestyle and the 1650-yard freestyle as well as the second-fastest time in the 500-yard freestyle.

Missouri State will return to action on Jan. 15 for Senior Night at Hammons Pool. The Bears will take on the Bulldogs of Truman State. MSU swept Truman in Kirksville earlier this season. Next week, the Bears will renew their rivalry with cross-town foe Drury. For the first time in school history, the meet will be televised. The meet will air on Mediacom 22 on a tape delay. More details on the meet to be released next week.
