ST. LOUIS  --  Missouri State sophomore Lacey Boshe has been named to the 2010 Missouri Valley Conference Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete Team, released Tuesday by the conference office. Boshe was tabbed a second-team MVC Scholar-Athlete by the MVC's sports information directors, becoming the first Lady Bear in two seasons to be chosen for one of the conference's all-academic squads.

A Marshfield, Mo., native, Boshe has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average as a cell and molecular biology major through her first two seasons as a Lady Bear. The 6-0 forward has enjoyed a standout season on the hardwood as well, closing the regular season as MSU's fifth-leading scorer with a 7.9 point per game average. Boshe has been one of the most consistent free throw shooters in the Valley during conference play, hitting on 89.4 percent of her attempts and completing a streak of 21 consecutive made free throws from Jan. 9 through Feb. 28.

The criteria for the scholar-athlete team balloting parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves, have played at least 75 percent of a team's games, and must carry at least a 3.2 GPA (on a 4.0 scale). Student-athletes must also have completed at least one full academic year at their present institution.

A total of 30 Valley women's basketball student-athletes met the criteria for scholar-athlete honors in 2010. Indiana State senior guard Kelsey Luna was selected MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and was joined on the first team by Jacqui Kalin of UNI, Maggie Krick of Illinois State, Sam Schuett of Creighton and Jenny Van Kirk of Bradley.

Boshe was honored on the second team along with Lizzie Boeck of UNI, Ashleen Bracey of Illinois State, Kelsie Cooley of Indiana State and Kellie Nelson and Megan Neuvirth of Creighton.

Honorable mention recognition went to UNI's Erin Brocka, Bradley's Renee Frericks, Evansville's Amy Gallagher, Illinois State's Nicolle Lewis, Southern Illinois's Christine Presswood, Drake's Kristin Turk and Amber Wollschlager and Creighton's Kelsey Woodard.

The Lady Bears will begin their quest for an unprecedented 10th State Farm MVC Tournament title when they head to St. Charles for their quarterfinal round match-up against Wichita State this Friday. Missouri State will tip-off against the Shockers at The Family Arena at 8:35 p.m.
