ST LOUIS - Sophomore Amber Green (St. Louis, Mo.) was named Missouri Valley conference Swimmer of the Week today for her efforts at the Purdue Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind.
Over the weekend-long invitational, Green had one of the best meets in the Valley this season against some of the nation's best competition. At the meet, the Bears competed against the likes of #13 Michigan, #17 Arkansas, #19 Purdue, #20 Louisville and #21 Ohio State. Green swam the 50-yard freestyle, placing third with a time of 23.10, a new conference season best, second all-time in Missouri State history and 32nd nationally. She then went on to place second in the 100-yard freestyle with an astounding time of 50.14, marking a new Missouri State record, a conference best and a National "B" cutline. Her time currently stands as the 22nd-best time in the nation.
Every event that Green swam in set a new conference season best.
Green and the Bears will return to action on December 17-19 at the Delta State Invitational. Last season, both the men's and women's teams earned top honors at the meet.
