Missouri State swimming and diving will take on some of the nation's best swimmers at the 2010 Purdue Invitational on Nov. 19-21. This year, the participating schools are Arkansas (women), Cincinnati (men and women), Louisville (men and women), Michigan (women), Southern Illinois (men and women), Ohio State (men and women), Purdue (men and women) and the Bears (men and women).
Last season, the women finished sixth of six, while the men were fourth of five. The highlight of the night was in the men's 100-yard backstroke. The tandem of Roko Simunic and Nicolas Villarroel finished first and third, respectively, in the event. Simunic and Villarroel had the highest individual finishes for the Bears.
The competition at Purdue is always intense, especially in the diving events. Purdue is known as one of the top diving schools in the country. Last season, the men's one-meter and three-meter diving champion, David Boudia, came from Purdue.
This season, of the teams competing, #8 Ohio State, #19 Louisville and #21 Purdue are ranked for the men. For the women, #13 Michigan, #17 Arkansas, #19 Purdue, #20 Louisville and #21 Ohio State are all ranked according to CollegeSwimming.com.
The meet will be scored using championship scoring, with both the championship and consolation heats receiving points. The preliminary heats will begin at 10:00 a.m. each day, with the finals at 6:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Sunday's final heat will begin at 3:00 p.m.
