Missouri State sophomore Brianna Willoughby (Ft. Carson, Colo.) was named the Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week for the week of Jan. 11 - 17. Willoughby was one of the standout Bears that took down conference rival Southern Illinois and NCAA Division II powerhouse Truman State.
Willoughby swam in multiple events, with each event bringing a more impressive achievement. Willoughby swam the anchor leg of the first place 400-yard Medley Relay with a time of 3:55.02 (second-best time in the Valley). She then swam in the 200-yard Individual Medley, where her time of 2:07.62 is tops in the MVC. To conclude this impressive meet, Willoughby led off for the 400-yard Freestyle Relay team that not only set the Valley mark at 3:31.93, but also broke a six-year record at Hammons Student Center Pool.
The Bears have a big weekend ahead of them with meets at Drury (Jan. 21 at 2 p.m.), home against Evansville (Jan. 22 at 5 p.m.) and finishing their regular season at Lindenwood (Jan. 23 at 1 p.m.).
