Norman Named MVC Volleyball Player of the Week

Missouri State sophomore volleyball player Calli Norman has been named this week’s Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Norman earned co-MVP honors at the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational in Springfield, hitting .404 with 3.36 kills and 1.29 blocks per set in Missouri State’s 4-0 showing in the event. Norman hit .375 or better three times, beginning with 16 kills, seven blocks and a .414 attack efficiency against UC Davis.

The St. Charles, Mo., native was even more dominant the next night against Memphis, pounding 13 kills on 18 swings to hit .611 while adding four more blocks.

Against Mississippi State, Norman had eight kills, one off the team lead, and hit .375. In Saturday’s tournament-clinching win, Norman hit .269 with 10 kills and six blocks versus Stephen F. Austin. She also had two aces and 13 digs on the weekend.

Norman and the Bears travel to Athens, Ohio, for the Hampton Inn Invitational beginning Friday. Missouri State will play Eastern Kentucky, Delaware, Indiana and Ohio in the event.
