The Missouri State men's soccer team (0-1-0) will begin the home portion of their schedule on Saturday as they face UMKC (0-1-0) at Plaster Field beginning at 4:00 p.m. The Bears dropped their season opener at No. 14 Tulsa on Tuesday, 2-0.
Preseason All-MVC goalkeeper Alex Riggs was able to keep the potent Golden Hurricane offense off the board until the 77th minute. He also made three saves in the match.
Last season, the Bears were 2-3-3 at home and fell in their home opener to Cleveland State. The Bears defeated Central Arkansas and Eastern Illinois at Plaster Field a year ago. The most impressive match of the season may have been the scoreless draw against No. 3 Creighton on Oct. 21.
UMKC dropped their season opener as well, by a 4-1 score at No. 22 San Francisco. The Kangaroos were an NCAA Tournament team and defeated the Bears in Kansas City last season, 1-0.
The Plaster Field gates open at 3:00 p.m. for tomorrow's match and all fans will receive a free schedule poster and schedule magnet. Kids 12 and under are admitted free of charge.
