The Missouri State men’s soccer team used a David Buckenheimer goal in the second half to down Missouri S&T, 1-0, in the exhibition opener at Plaster Field today. The Bears improve to 1-0-0 in exhibition play.
Sophomore David Buckenheimer picked up a loose ball near midfield early in the second half. He dribbled the ball to the top of the box and sent a low shot that got through the S&T keeper for the only goal of the match.
Preseason All-MVC goalkeeper Alex Riggs played the first half in net for the Bears. Sophomore Nikolas Markos entered the match for the second half, making to only save of the game for the Bears.
The Bears offense mustered six shots on goal and 11 shots total. Missouri State took eight corner kicks in the match, but several attempted headers in the box were unsuccessful.
The men’s soccer team continues exhibition play on Saturday as they travel to Saint Louis University. Kickoff at Robert R Hermann Stadium is at 7 p.m. The Bears’ regular season opener is September 1 at the University of Tulsa.
