Bears? Defense Strong Again in Exhibition Finale Tie

The Missouri State women’s soccer team wrapped up a successful exhibition slate today at Plaster Field with a 0-0 tie against Central Missouri.  The Bears continued their defensive dominance completing their third shutout in as many exhibition matches.

Jessica Teahan started in net for the Bears and held Central Missouri scoreless for 77 minutes.  Freshman Chelsea Voet played the final 13 minutes in net securing the scoreless tie.  Teahan made two saves on the Jennies’ only two shots on goal.

The Bears offense had numerous pushes toward the net, but was unable to get a goal past UCM keeper Lauren Bamvakais.  Missouri State totaled 16 shots during the match, forcing the Jennies keeper to make seven saves.  Freshman Rachel Weimer led the Bears with three shots on goal.

Both teams earned five corner kicks in the match; neither was able to convert on the set piece.  The Bears ended the exhibition portion of their schedule with a 2-0-1 record and scored five goals while allowing none.

Missouri State begins the regular season in Norman, Okla., on Friday in the first of four road matches.  The Bears will kick off against the Sooners at John Crain Field at 7:00 p.m.
