2009 Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Year Jordan Hawkins (Choctaw, Okla.), a senior at Missouri State, is one of 46 student-athletes selected to the CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Team for at-large sports. A biology major with a 3.86 grade-point average, Hawkins was named to the University Division (Division I) Second Team and is the only Missouri Valley Conference student-athlete on the list.
The women's at-large team includes nominees in the sports of swimming and diving, bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, and tennis.
Hawkins was a first-team All-MVC swimmer three years and also earned MVC Scholar-Athlete honors three consecutive seasons. She was a three-time MVC champion in the 50-yard freestyle, two-time MVC 100-yard backstroke champion, and holds three Missouri Valley Conference individual records. Hawkins also claimed four MSU records and is part of four MSU relay records while being named as the Bears' Swimmer of the Year in both 2007-08 and 2008-09. She was also MVC Freshman of the Year in 2006 and claimed MVC Prairie Farms Scholar Athlete of the Week and Swimmer of the Week honors this season.
She previously earned a first-team selection in the District 7 Academic All-District Team, which includes all NCAA Division I schools in Missouri, Iowa, Kansas, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Colorado. The All-District selection advanced her to the national ballot, which was voted on by sports information personnel from around the nation with 15 student-athletes earning first- and second-team distinction in the at-large sports, along with 16 third-team selections.
