Stokes Inducted Into Her High School's Hall of Fame

Missouri State head volleyball coach Melissa Stokes recently became the first female inducted into Granite Hills High School’s Athletics Hall of Fame in a May 21 ceremony at the school in El Cajon, Calif.

    Stokes, who begins her 14th season at MSU in the fall, lettered in basketball, softball, track, soccer and volleyball as a prep.  She was the MVP of the track team in 1986 and led the soccer team in scoring and assists in 1984 on the way to earning all-conference honors. She led the soccer team in scoring again as a junior.

    Stokes was named first-team all-conference in both her junior and senior volleyball seasons in 1985 and 1986 as well as being selected the league player of the year in 1986. She was also named to the Greater San Diego all-CIF teams as well as team MVP. She was the GHHS Female Athlete of the Year in 1986 as well as a USVBA All-American.

    Stokes went on to a successful career as a setter at San Diego State University.
