The Missouri Valley Football Conference announced its 2008 Academic Awards on Thursday, and Missouri State University had 21 players named to the league's list, three of whom also earned the Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award. All-MVFC offensive guard
David Arkin (So., Wichita, Kan., 3.65 GPA, Construction Management), kicker
Matt Hottelman (Jr., O'Fallon, Mo., 3.40 GPA, Construction Management), and wide receiver
Jared Emery (Jr., Mountain Grove, Mo., 3.75 GPA, Microbiology & Biotechnology) were MSU's Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award recipients. To receive the league's Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award it requires a minimum grade point average of 3.2 for the previous two semesters, a minimum 3.2 grade point average for the current term (Fall 2008), and participation in athletics. Freshmen are not eligible. Missouri State's Honor Roll Award recipients were:
Cedric Alvis, Andre Anderson, Arkin, Chris Brehmer, Jason Bromley, Jordan Chiles, Grant Detwiler, Clayton Dickehut, Emery, Chris Geisz, Cory Harbor, Jarryd Horn, Hottelman, Harrison Menke, Jason Muehlheausler, Chad Peachey, Seth Reichert, Travis Simmons, Skylar Smith, Andrew Watts, and Roger Wright. To qualify for the Honor Roll, a student-athlete must have recorded a minimum 3.0 grade point average for a specified term (Fall 2008), must have been a member of an athletics team, and must have a minimum of 12 hours of enrollment during the fall. Arkin was named to the MVFC All-Academic Second Team, as voted on by league sports information directors, along with seniors
Chris Brehmer (DT, 3.48, Psychology) and
Chris Geisz (WR, 3.54, Sales/Sales Management).

Clayton Dickehut (DE, 3.44 Construction Management) were MVFC All-Academic Honorable Mention selections.
Brehmer was also named to the CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Football Team.
