Midfielder Samantha Aguilar netted a 20-yard, second-half goal to lead the Missouri State women’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes on Saturday in the Bears first exhibition match of the day.
MSU’s keeper Jessica Teahan earned the shutout, her fourth of the spring season. “Teahan handled the goal keeping duties well”, head coach Rob Brewer stated. The Bears’ defense was strong once again limiting Tulsa to just a few chances on goal, and holding the Golden Hurricanes off the scoreboard.
In Missouri State’s second match of the day, against a much stronger Tulsa team, the Bears dropped a 1-0 decision. Tulsa’s goal came with five minutes remaining on the clock off a long free kick that went high to the back post. The goal was the first goal that the Bears’ defense has allowed this spring season.
“The first half of the match was solid as we tried to have some possession of the ball, but Tulsa was athletic and did a good job with their pressure in the midfield”, stated Brewer. “I think that we battled hard, but we were drained at the end of the match.”
The Bears continue their eight-game exhibition slate next Saturday at Fayetteville, Ark. for a single match against the University of Arkansas.
