Volleyball Bears Drop Five-Setter at Southern Illinois

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Missouri State volleyball team alternated sets with Southern Illinois Saturday evening at Davies Gym in Carbondale, Ill., but it was the Salukis grabbing the first, third and fifth sets for a 3-2 Missouri Valley Conference win.

Scores in favor of the Salukis (18-8, 7-8 MVC) were 25-20, 20-25, 25-21, 14-25, 15-11. Missouri State dropped to 18-8 overall and 11-3 in the league.

Facing a 2-1 deficit, Missouri State dominated the fourth set by hitting .308 and surrendering just eight kills to the home team in a 25-14 win.

But the Bears were not able to carry that momentum into the final period as SIU rolled up 11 kills and got its other four points off MSU attack errors. The Bears countered those errors with only six kills for a .067 attack efficiency in the final set.

Calli Norman led MSU with 19 kills on .351 hitting, and Bethany Fuller added 10 kills and hit .450. Addie Foley chipped in 10 kills as well. Cara Hackmann led all players with 25 digs.

Missouri State returns to Hammons Student Center Nov. 13 to begin its final home weekend of the season. The Bears host 25th-ranked UNI (24-2, 14-0) at 7 p.m. Friday.
