Hackmann Earns Academic All-District Accolades

Missouri State volleyball player Cara Hackmann has earned a spot on the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII Second Team, it was announced Thursday.

A junior libero from Washington, Mo., Hackmann carries a 3.84 cumulative grade point average in finance. She ranks fourth nationally and second in the Missouri Valley Conference with 5.94 digs per set, and set an MVC record with 46 digs earlier this season against Evansville. Her 5.94 digs per set average sits 0.79 ahead of Missouri State’s current record, while her 535 total digs in 2009 ranks fifth on the single-season list.

Hackmann has been honored four times this season as the MVC Defensive Player of the Week, twice as the Scholar-Athlete of the Week, once as the Player of the Week and once as the CVU.com National Player of the Week.

Hackmann is the first MSU Academic All-District honoree since Katie Werges in 2005.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in both undergrad and graduate work. Student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their current institution and must have completed at least one full academic year at that institution. Only first-team all-district selections advance to the national ballot.
