Senior Nicolas Villarroel (Caracas, Venezuela) won the Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week for the week of Oct. 25-31. Villarroel is the second Bear to win the award this season. Junior Roko Simunic won the award for the first week of competition.
Villarroel placed first in three events and broke records against defending NCAA Division II Champion Drury University on Oct. 31. Villarroel swam the backstroke leg of the 400-yard medley relay and achieved a time of 49.00 in his stretch, a new pool record at Hammons Student Center. Thanks to Villarroel's quick start, the Bears finished the relay in 3:22.37, also a pool record in the event. Villarroel also placed first in the 200-yard backstroke (1:49.44) and helped the 400-yard freestyle relay team to a first place finish (3:07.52).
Villarroel and the Bears take to the pool again on Friday, Nov. 6 at Hammons Student Center Pool. Missouri State is playing host to Lindenwood University at 6:00 p.m.
