Senior Samantha Aguilar, junior Jordan Reppell and sophomore Jessica Teahan were named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete first team, the league announced today. Senior Jessica Smits also received honorable mention accolades.
Aguilar, who has a 3.39 GPA while majoring in speech/language pathology, was named Player of the Year by the league last week. She led the Bears in goals (5) and points (12) for the second consecutive season. She has also received All-MVC first team and MVC All-Tournament honors this season.
Reppell was also named to the first team and holds a 3.63 GPA in chemistry. She recorded a career-high three assists this season and was one of the leaders on a Bears' defense that recorded nine shutouts. Reppell received first-team All-MVC honors last week for the second straight season.
Teahan, making her first scholar-athlete team with a 3.73 GPA in social work, recorded seven shutouts for the Bears this season. Her shutout streak of 425:58 from Sept. 11 through Sept. 20 was the longest since Jackie Jasper in 2006 (478 minutes). Teahan was named MVC Defensive Player of the Week twice this season (Sept. 21 and Oct. 12). She was named to the All-MVC first team last week as well.
Smits, who has a 3.57 GPA in exercise and movement science, recorded three assists during the season. She was also named to the All-MVC second team last week for the second consecutive season.
Missouri State finished the season 9-6-3 and went 3-1-1 in MVC play. The Bears reached the MVC Tournament semifinals before falling to Creighton in overtime, 2-1.
