The Missouri State men’s swimming and diving team claimed another dual meet victory with a score of 126-117 against Southern Illinois on Thursday night in Carbondale, Ill. The women’s team came up just short against the Salukis by a score of 124-118.
The men swim Bears claimed first in six different events in the dual. Sophomore Cajun Skinner claimed an individual win in the 200 breaststroke, clocking a time of 2:04.78. Nicolas Villarroel posted a time of 1:50.41 in the 200 back to earn the victory.
Senior Victor Serra claimed two individual wins in the 200 butterfly and the 200 individual medley touching the wall at 1:52.05 and 1:53.97 in the events, respectively.
Sophomore diver Eric Ducourneau outscored all opponents on the one-meter-board earning first place in the event with a score of 304.73. His closest competitor and second-place finisher, Justin Ruszkowski, from Southern Illinois combined for a score of 277.13.
The Bears claimed a victory in the 400 medley relay as Villarroel, Skinner, Serra and Ciro Sauaia combined for a time of 3:24.22 in the event.
The women claimed four individual wins in the dual against SIU. Dimi Drakopoulos, Breanna Hollar, Brianna Willoughby and Jordan Hawkins each claimed individual titles but it was not to edge the Salukis.
Drakopoulos claimed first in 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:28.96. Teammate Hilary Morrow took second in the event behind Drakopoulos clocking a time of 10:32.35.
Hollar and Chelsea Dirks-Ham finished one-two in the 200 butterfly with times of 2:10.61 and 2:12.10, respectively.
Willoughby claimed the top spot in the 200 individual medley touching the wall at 2:10.88. Fran Moody claimed second in the event touching the wall in less than one second after Willoughby (2:11.78).
Jordan Hawkins earned first-place in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:04.05.
The Bears will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 17 when they host Division II powerhouse, Truman State University, at 1:00 p.m. at Hammons Center Pool.
