Bears Unhittable Again, Earn Two More Victories

The Missouri State softball team continued its dominance over its fall season competition Saturday (Sept. 27), sweeping Central Missouri and Missouri S&T to improve to 6-0 on the fall campaign. MSU received standout performances from its pitchers, chalking up its second consecuitve no-hitter while running its consecutive hitless streak to 20.1 innings.

The Bears once again rode the mound combination of Lauren Supak and Natalie Rose to shut down the opposition in the opener, posting a 2-0 victory over Central Missouri. Supak worked five perfect innings before giving way to Rose, who walked just one batter over two hitless innings to earn her fourth save of the fall. The duo combined last week to throw a perfect game in a 1-0 win over Drury.

MSU scored both of its runs in the fifth inning on RBIs from Jessie Smith and Ashley Knehans. Christa Gammon scored the Bears' first run of the afternoon following her single to left-center with two on and nobody out. The sophomore had two hits in the game and four for the afternoon to lead MSU's offense.

In the second game MSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead over Missouri S&T, courtesy of a three-run first. Smith's run-scoring single plated Gammon for the game's first run, and Knehans added an RBI ground-out before Brooke Kempker capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly. The Bears' added a run in the second on Raeven Replogle's RBI single to right.

Starting pitcher Lauren McGinley allowed a pair of hits in the first inning to snap the Bears' consecutive hitless innings streak, but held the Miners scoreless for the contest's first three innings to push MSU's shutout innings streak to 27. Missouri S&T's Katie Smith led off the fourth with a home run to end the streak, but Rose would come on once again to close the door. The freshman gave up a pair of hits, but fanned three to finish the 4-1 decision and earn the save.
