The Missouri State women’s soccer team dominated Nicholls State in a 7-0 shutout victory on Friday night in the first match of the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
The Bears struck in the 7th minute as sophomore defender Christine Cross traveled down the right side of the field where she slipped the ball to forward Meghan Cassady who netted the first goal of the game early in the first-half.
The second goal for the Bears was netted by senior Caroline Sweeney. Bears’ midfielder Samantha Aguilar crossed the ball to Sweeney who one-timed it into the back of the net to put the Bears up 2-0.
Missouri State extended the lead to 3-0 when Aguilar and freshman forward Tara Bailes set up a combination play leading up to a goal by Aguilar, her fourth of the season.
Freshman Kelsey Finders netted the fourth goal of the match for the Bears at the 27:59 minute mark in the first-half. Finders received a deflected shot and framed the ball into the back of the net. Senior midfielder Laura Galati was credited with the assist.
Missouri State struck again in the 30th minute of the match to put the Bears up 5-0. Bailes slid in to get a touch on the ball which resulted in a goal off a cross that was layed out by junior Jenna Laughlin.
The sixth and final goal of the first-half came in the 40th minute as sophomore Jordan Reppell’s pass found Laughlin at the edge of the box. Laughlin netted the ball, recording her second goal of the season.
The Bears sealed the win with a second-half goal by freshman Logan Bisbee. Laughlin was loose on the right side of the field and sent a cross to Bisbee who chested the ball and on the second touch drilled the ball into the back post.
Missouri State dominated Nicholls State offensively posting 12 shots to Nicholls State’s two. The Bears edged the Colonels 8-0 in corner kicks.
Bears’ goalie Jackie Jasper recorded her fifth shut-out on the season, posting one save in the match. Colonel keeper Sarah Damen posted two saves on the match taking the loss. With the victory, Jasper earned her 34th career win putting her at the top of the Missouri State all-time career wins list.
The Bears will be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 21 when they take on Western Michigan in the final match of the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
