The Missouri State women’s soccer team shut out the University of Tulsa Golden Hurricanes 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Plaster Field in Springfield, Mo. The Bears improved their record to 3-1 on the season and the loss dropped the Golden Hurricanes to 2-2.
Junior forward Jenna Laughlin scored her first goal of the season as she headed the ball into the back of the net off a cross pass from senior Allison Osmundson. Laughlin’s game-winning goal came in the 59th minute of the second-half putting the Bears up 1-0 on the scoreboard.The Bears played a solid defensive game and kept the Golden Hurricanes out of scoring position the remainder of the half.
Missouri State edged Tulsa in shots 12-8. Junior Samantha Aguilar recorded three shots while Laughlin posted two, both on goal.
Missouri State’s goalkeeper Jackie Jasper was tabbed with the win recording five saves in the match. With the victory, Jasper is tied with the most goalkeeper wins (33) in Missouri State history. Tulsa’s keeper Kendal Harcle recorded just one less save with four.
The Bears will be back in action when they compete in the Toys for Tots Tournament in St. Louis, Mo. where they will challenge Army at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5.
