Soccer Teams Announce 2008 Schedules

The Missouri State men’s and women’s soccer teams will host seven and eight matches, respectively, at Plaster Sports Complex during the upcoming 2008 season.

The men’s team opens the home schedule the second weekend of the season with its annual home tournament Sept. 5 and 6. The Bears play Cleveland State and Centenary in the event. MSU will host Missouri Valley Conference matches against Creighton and Eastern Illinois while facing the remaining three league foes on the road. The team will travel to tournaments at Drake, New Mexico and Bradley. The schedule features two matches against first-time opponents (Akron, Howard) and five against participants in the 2007 NCAA Tournament (Akron, Bradley, Creighton, Saint Louis, Tulsa).

The women’s schedule begins with three of the first four contests at home and the Bears welcome Arkansas to open the season on Aug. 22. The Bears host MVC matches against Evansville, 2007 league champion Creighton and Indiana State. Southeast Missouri State joins Creighton as the two 2007 NCAA Tournament participants on MSU’s 2008 ledger.

The remainder of the home schedule includes Arkansas-Little Rock, Tulsa, Kansas and SIU-Edwardsville.

The 2008 State Farm MVC men’s tournament will be held at Evansville, beginning with the quarterfinals on Nov. 12 and ending Nov. 16. The women’s tournament shifts to a one-site format this year, with the quarterfinals taking place Nov. 5 in Omaha, Neb., the semis on Nov. 7 and finals on Nov. 9.
