The Missouri Valley announced on Tuesday that two additional men's soccer teams will join the conference as affiliate members for the 2010 season. SIU-Edwardsville and Central Arkansas will join the MVC.
SIU-Edwardsville has a plan in place to move all sports up to Division I competition by 2012. The Bears faced the Cougars in the season opener on Aug. 30 in the Drake invitational Tournament losing 1-0 on a second half goal. The Cougars finished the season with a 5-8-1 record and were 1-1 against the MVC with their lone loss coming against Drake on Aug. 31.
The other team to join the MVC is the University of Central Arkansas which finished their 10th season as a Division I program with a disappointing 3-14-1 record. UCA was 1-2 against MVC teams with their lone win coming against Bradley, a 2-1 victory at home on Nov. 8.
When UCA hosted SIU-Edwardsville this season, the Cougars outscored the Bears 3-0 on Nov. 15 in Conway, Ark.
