Missouri State sophomore diver Eric Ducourneau broke a 21-year-old record in the three-meter diving competition as the Missouri State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams defeated Lindenwood University by scores of 67-44 on the men’s side and 68-44 on the women’s side in a dual meet at Hammons Center Pool in Springfield, Mo.
In the men’s three-meter diving event, Ducourneu scored an impressive 365.85 in six dives to earn first-place. His score broke the 1987 Missouri State record of 364.50 held by diver Eric Christensen. Ducourneau also placed first in the one-meter competition with a score of 327.23.
On the men’s side, junior Cole McGee won the 1000 freestyle race with a time of 10:05.33. Freshman Tyler Saltzberry finished close behind McGee for second-place with a time of 10:18.06.
In the 200 freestyle, sophomore Dillon Burns captured first-place touching the wall at the 1:46.73 minute mark. Junior Vance Perkins finished nearly two seconds behind in second in a time of 1:48.60.
Nicolas Villarroel claimed the number one spot in the 50-freestyle race clocking a time of 21.76.
The Bears finished one, two and three in the 200 yard individual medley as Vic Riffel, Waldo Broodryk, and Chris Novak took the top three spots.
Butterfly specialist, Pat Bergin took first in the 100 fly event with a time of 52.85. Freshmen Jeff Bentz and Thomas Bullock claimed second and third-place with times of 53.30 and 53.91, respectively.
Missouri State claimed the top four spots in the 100 freestyle. Villarroel, Eduardo Pajares, Burns, and Riffel touched the wall one after the other to earn first, second, third and fourth in the event. The Bears would do the same in the 100 backstroke event. Bergin, Serra, Bryson Cramer and Ciro Sauaia claimed the top four spots 100 back.
On the women’s side, sophomore Nina Bailey claimed the number one spot in the 1000 yard freestyle event with a time of 10:55.47. Rene Smith and Katie Lindeman finished in second and third-place with times of 10:56.43 and 11:08.98.
Sophomore Breanna Hollar recorded a victory in the 200 freestyle race touching the wall at 1:59.26 while junior Hilary Morrow claimed first in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:15.49.
Senior Katie Gleich and freshman Ali Stauffer took the top two spots in the 100 yard freestyle with times of 56.70 and 57.11.
Missouri State finished first, second, and third in the 100 yard backstroke event as Chelsea Dirks-Ham, Francy Palma, and Alison Duewer claimed the top three spots.
In the 500 freestyle, freshman Michelle Schaefer finished in first-place stopping the clock at 5:14.06.
In the women’s diving competition, Missouri State junior Heather Fulton claimed first on the three-meter board with a score of 275.63. Fulton also captured first in the one-meter competition with a score of 286.50.
The Bears’ swimming and diving teams will be in action on Saturday, Nov. 8 when they take on Truman State and the University of Nebraska-Omaha in Kirksville, Mo. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
