The Missouri State men’s swimming and diving team rolled past the Texas Christian Horned Frogs with a score of 67-46 Saturday, Oct. 5 in the Bear’s first dual meet of the season. The Missouri State women’s team fell to the Horned Frogs 72-41.
The men’s team was led by senior Eduardo Pajares who captured two individual wins in the 500 yard and 1000 yard freestyle events. Pajares recorded a time of 4:42.77 in the 500 free and a time of 9:52.28 in the 1000 free earning two wins for the Bears.
Missouri State’s relay teams were strong once again as Roko Simunic, Cajun Skinner, Victor Serra and Andy Denefe took the top spot in the 400 medley relay teaming for a time of 3:26.88. Simunic, Denefe, Ciro Sauaia and Dillon Burns claimed first in the 400 freestyle relay clocking a time of 3:10.79.
Freshman Bryson Cramer earned his first collegiate individual win in the 200 freestyle posting a time of 1:45.57, while sophomore Cajun Skinner picked up a victory in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:07.74.
Butterfly specialist Victor Serra clocked a time of 1:55.24 in the 200 fly to claim first in the event.
In the men’s diving events, sophomore Eric Ducourneau placed third in both the one-meter and three-meter diving competitions. Ducourneau recorded a score of 274.95 on the one-meter board and a score of 311.10 on the three-meter board.
On the women’s side, Missouri State finished one, two and three in two different events. Chelsea Dirks-Ham (2:09.82), Francy Palma (2:17.31) and Alison Duewer (2:18.80) claimed the top three spots in the 200 backstroke while Fran Moody (2:25.22), Stacey MacDonald (2:33.41) and Brianna Willoughby (2:34.62) claimed the top three spots in the 200 breaststroke.
Senior Jordan Hawkins placed second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.52 and junior Matana Wellman took third in the event with a time of 54.39. Wellman added another third-place finish in the 200 free clocking a time of 1:57.89.
Breanna Hollar finished in third-place in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:14.09 while Katharina Voelkel took third in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:52.71.
The 400 medley relay team consisting of Hawkins, Moody, Dirks-Ham and Wellman finished in second-place behind TCU’s team with a time of 4:00.19.
In the women’s diving events, Freshman Heather Fulton placed first on the one-meter board with a score of 246.53 and second on the three-meter board with a score of 207.37. Junior Chelsea Ray recorded a score of 214.20 on the one-meter board to claim second in the event.
The Missouri State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will open their home stand Saturday, Oct. 11 with the annual Alumni and Intrasquad meet. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
