The
Missouri State women’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 overtime decision to
Drake University on Sunday, Oct. 12 in Des Monies,
Iowa. Drake’s Elizabeth Woerle celebrated the golden goal in the 93
rd minute of the contest, leading the Bulldogs to their second conference victory this season. The Bears are
8-5-1 on the season and drop to 1-2 in MVC play.
The game-winning goal came in the third minute of overtime as Woerle headed the ball into the back of the net off a corner kick by Lauren Wiltshire. The goal was Woerle’s fifth on the season.
Missouri State and Drake tied in shots with eight a piece. Senior forward Caroline Sweeney led the Bears offensively posting three shots.
Foul trouble would plague the Bears, as Missouri State was whistled for 14 fouls in the game compared to just eight for Drake. The Bulldogs edged the Bears in corner kicks 9-3.
Goalkeeper Jackie Jasper posted fives saves between the pipes for the Bears and DU’s keeper Jenny Schroeder tallied two.
The Missouri State women’s soccer team will return home for a conference match-up against Creighton University on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 12:00 p.m.
