MSU Women's Soccer Triumphs over UALR, 2-1

The Bears were sparked by sophomore Jenna Laughlin as she recorded the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Bears the victory. Forward Meghan Cassady sent a shot into the Trojans’ goalie which deflected back into the field at the feet of Laughlin. Laughlin rebounded the ball and quickly found the back of the net, making the score 2-1.

Despite a lightning delay in the second half, the Missouri State women’s soccer team defeated the University of Arkansas-Little Rock 2-1 in overtime on Tuesday, September 4, in Little Rock, Arkansas. The win improves the Bears undefeated record to 3-0.

Laughlin scored the Bears’ first goal immediately following the game delay, heading a corner kick by Lauren Heck into the back of the net. Laughlin was in perfect scoring position as Heck blasted the ball from the corner towards the goal allowing Laughlin to find an opening to score against Trojans’ keeper, Jane Picarelli.

The Trojans responded with a goal of their own by midfielder Grace Rich before the end of the second half, tying the game and forcing overtime.

The Bears combined for a total of 22 shots, 14 on goal and limited the Trojans’ offense to only eight shots, five on goal.

Missouri State will travel to Lincoln, Nebraska to challenge the Cornhuskers on Friday, September 9.
