Sophomores Jenna Dobkins and Samantha Aguilar and freshman Nicole Logan and Sarah Linsin all scored goals for the Bears to lead the Missouri State women’s soccer team to a 4-0 shut-out victory over Murray State on Wednesday afternoon in Murray, Ky. Missouri State improves to 4-2 with the win as Murray State drops to 1-3.
The Bears struck in the 40th minute of the match as Logan headed a free kick from Jessica Depew past Racers’ goalkeeper Tara Isbell to put Missouri State up 1-0 at the end of the first-half.
Missouri State boosted its lead to 2-0 on Aguilar’s first goal of the season. Aguilar was rewarded a penalty kick after a Murray State field player blocked Aguilar’s first shot with her hands. The illegal block resulted in a red card for Murray State and the Racers played the rest of the match a player down.
The Bears took full advantage of being a player up and scored two more goals in the second-half. Defender Sarah Linsin blasted a shot from 45 yards into the back of the net scoring her first collegiate goal. Jenna Dobkins scored with two minutes remaining in the match. A cross from freshman Christine Cross found Dobkins who fired a shot past the Racers’ keeper into the back of the net.
Junior goalkeeper Jackie Jasper picked up the win between the pipes. For the match, the Bears out-shot Murray State 14-4. The Bears emptied their bench allowing all 21 players to contribute in the match.
The Bears will travel to Lawrence, Kan. to take on the University of Kansas in a 5 p.m. match on Tuesday, Sept. 18.
