Missouri State men’s soccer team opened the 2007 season in impressive fashion Saturday with a 4-1 victory over Centenary at Plaster Field.
The Bears dictated the game’s tempo throughout the match with crisp passing and scored a pair of goals in each half. Senior midfielder Omar Shoucair scored the game’s first goal from 10-yards away just over 10 minutes into the contest following a beautiful assist from sophomore defender Ryan Hennessy. Missouri State sophomore defender Nick Dryden triggered the Bears’ second goal in the game’s 29th minute. His pass down the left side to sophomore midfielder Kyle Windmueller led to a breakaway goal and a 2-0 lead.
Centenary, which falls to 0-2 overall, scored its lone goal with just over a minute left in first half. The Bears responded accordingly, by dominating the second period of play.
Another Bears sophomore, forward Will Ziegahn, used an assist from Windmueller to score on an 18-yard shot from in front of the goal in the game’s 50th minute. Sophomore midfielder Johannes Demarzi capped the Bears’ scoring with a free kick goal from the right side with just 12 minutes remaining.
Missouri State will be back in action Tuesday at 8 p.m. when the Bears host the University of North Florida at Plaster Field. The Ospreys enter the match with a 2-1 overall record.
