Women's soccer picked fourth in MVC poll

The Missouri Valley Conference announced its 2007 women’s soccer preseason coaches poll Wednesday with the Bears picked to finish fourth this season. The University of Evansville claims the number one spot this year after earning a trip to the MVC Championship game last season. Drake and Creighton capture the numbers two and three spots, while Illinois State, Indiana State and UNI claim fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively.

The Bears will be led by three returning seniors including last year’s second-team All-MVC pick Kate Blair and fellow teammates Megan Beebe and Lauren Heck. Junior Jackie Jasper will be looked upon for her notable defensive efforts as a two-time first-team All-MVC goalkeeper.

Head Coach Rob Brewer (106-92-23) begins his 12th season with the Bears and is the only women’s soccer coach in school history. Missouri State will open its 2007 season at home, hosting Western Michigan University on Aug. 31 at 7:00 p.m.
