Missouri State women's basketball head coach Nyla Milleson has made another addition to her first Lady Bear squad as Jacque Griggs, a 6-0 forward from Kansas City's Hickman Mills High School, has officially committed to join the MSU program for the 2007-08 season. Griggs's pledge comes on the heels of last Thursday's commitment from junior college transfer Tiffany Coppage, who became the first recruit to join the Missouri State program since Milleson was named head coach on April 9.
A four-year starter in high school, Griggs capped her career by averaging 17 points and eight rebounds per contest en route to picking up second-team all state honors as a senior at Hickman Mills. She was a catalyst for the Cougars’ 25-2 season in 2006-07, which culminated in a Missouri Class 5 quarterfinal appearance.
Griggs is the daughter of former Lady Bear Kimberly Scoggin, who was a three-year starter and team captain during a playing career that spanned 1987-91. Scoggin scored 891 points and grabbed 490 rebounds during her MSU career, garnering Gateway Conference honorable mention laurels as a junior in 1990. She wrapped up her career as the Lady Bears’ all-time leader in steals with 178.
"We’re very excited to have a second generation Lady Bear join our program," Milleson commented. "Jacque is definitely a kid who has a true passion for this university and a strong desire to be in a Lady Bear uniform. She has tremendous upside and her athleticism and versatility will be key as her game continues to mature."
