MVC Announces Women's Swimming and Diving All-Centennial Team

The Missouri Valley Conference is celebrating its centennial during 2006-07 season and, as part of the celebration, The Valley is naming all-centennial teams for each of the Valley-sponsored sports. A total of 14 Missouri State women swimmers and divers have been named to the MVC All-Centennial Team.

The team consists of current and former student-athletes who met the following criteria: three or four-time all-conference athlete; specialty award honoree (swimmer/diver of the year) and remarkable performance at individual institution (record-breaking performance).

Kyla Meuer, Andi Rojas and Allison Zeller, all current standout athletes, have been named to the Valley All-Centennial Team. Meuer is the owner of the Missouri State 100-yard breaststroke record she set at the 2005 Delta State Christmas Invitational in 1:04.86. The senior is also on the MSU record-holding 200 free relay, 400 free relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay and has won nine conference titles in the last three years. Meuer is a three-time first team all-conference winner.

Rojas, a junior, set four MSU records at the 2006 Valley Championship in the 100 fly, 200 fly, 400 freestyle relay, and 200 medley relay. She is also on the 800 free relay and 400 medley relay that marked new times in 2005. Rojas has won 10 conference titles in the last two years.

Zeller set a new MSU 100 backstroke record in 2005 and is a member of the record-holding 200 and 400 medley relays. The senior has won six conference titles in the last three years.

Katie Boarman is one of the former MSU student-athletes that have been named to the Valley All-Centennial Team. Boarman (2002-05) is MSU's current 200 and 400 IM record holder.

Liz Geisler (2003-06) has also been honored to the team. Geisler owns the 200, 500 and 1,000 freestyle records along with being on the record-setting 800 freestyle relay. Geisler was named MVC Swimmer of the Week four-straight weeks as a senior for her standout performances in freestyle events.

Chauntelle Johnson (2002-05) was voted to the team after a stellar career as a sprint freestylist. She helped the Bears to University records in the 200 free relay, 400 free relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay as a senior.

Another former Bear voted to the team is Tyler Lisle (2001-04). Lisle was a standout in butterfly events and held the school record in both the 100 and 200 fly in her junior and senior seasons.

Brianne McGuirk (2000-03) was an outstanding breaststroker for the Bears during her tenure, earning her a spot on the Valley All-Centennial. McGuirk held the 100 breaststroke record until 2005 and still owns the 200 breaststroke varsity record today.

Ericka Norgren (2003-06) was selected to the team and is the current holder of the 100 free MSU record. She was also the lead leg in the record-breaking 200, 400 and 800 freestyle relays.

Marcy O'Neil (2003-06) anchored the 200 and 800 freestyle relays that set new varsity records at the 2005 Valley Championship. O'Neil made her mark in school history in freestyle, breaststroke and IM events.

Courtney Phillips (2003-06) was named MVC Freshman of the Year in 2003 after setting three Missouri State varsity records in the 500, 1,000 and 1,650 freestyle at the MVC Championship. She now ranks second in Bear history in all three events.

Also making the All-Centennial team is Allison Yates (2001-04). Yates was a record-breaking sprint freestylist and owned the 50 free record until 2005 and held the 100 free record in 2003-04.

Missouri State's Stacey Arkovich (2003-06) was selected to the team for her performances on the diving boards. Arkovich currently holds the one-meter (6) and three-meter (6) diving records.

Vanessa Noriega (2000-02) owns records on the one-meter (11) and three-meter (11) diving boards for MSU and was the final Bear selected to the All-Centennial team.
